BBL for 8/16

New show info is up...and for some reason I cannot link to anything today.  Bummer.

Anyway, some of the more interesting stories focus on parenting.  A study describes high school drug use as "common" while another article focuses on the effects of schedules for younger kids.

Two articles focus on the left-leanings of the media.  One is the real article, while another is more of a reaction to the first.

Also, be sure to keep those in Peru in your prayers.

Since I cannot point you in the direction of other cool and interesting stories, I'll use today's post for some blatant promotion!

Make plans to join us today at Genoa Church, at the corner of Rte. 3 and Lewis Center, just north of Westerville.  From 3-6 we'll broadcast live and we've got  the Wheel O' Fun packed full of prizes.  Also, we'll be passing out copies of the new Bob Burney Live! Parody CD: Part Deux.  Easiest way to get to Genoa is to go north on the Route 3 exit from 270.  It's probably 5 or 6 miles and the church will be on your left.

Finally, we're working on a redesign for Bob's website.  It looks pretty sharp so far.

Hope to see you at Genoa!

BBL for 8/15

A little later than usual, but today's show info is up.  I'm running a bit behind because I had lunch with this guy.

The story that sticks out for me today is this one, a member of the Rutgers women's basketball team is suing radio host Don Imus.  Back in March you could not escape this story.  Radio, television, newspapers, internet, even Bob Burney Live, all media outlets were talking about Don Imus and his insensitive comments about the Rutgers basketball squad.  But guess what...it blew over!  Just like every other moral outrage that tops the news for a week or two.  The Rutgers team fell out of the limelight, Imus was fired, and we all moved on.  Well, not all of us.  Kia Vaughn, a member of the team, is suing because of the damage done to her reputation.  Actually, I let her lawyer, Richard Ancowitz, say it...

"This is about Kia Vaughn's good name. She would do anything to return to her life as a student and respected basketball player — a more simple life before Imus opened his mouth on April 4."

Now, I'm a basketball fan and I've never heard of Kia Vaughn.  Never once, in all of the media coverage, did any of the girls on the team really get much in the way of individual coverage.  It was always about Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.  I'm not really sure what Kia's life is like, but I can't imagine that people are following her around and calling her names, or judging her based on the comments of a radio jock.  Perhaps I'm wrong, but by moving on with this lawsuit, Kia Vaughn will make herself the poster child for the Rutgers team and now the comments made my Imus will have a face, and a name,as opposed to his team.  Kia Vaughn's "good name" would not have registered with 99% of the news-reading public, but with this suit, her name will now be recognized as the one that Don Imus talked about.

The award for most-disturbing story goes to Hamas Television.

The Cruise & Choose makes it's triumphant return tomorrow afternoon.  From 3-6 we'll be broadcasting live from Genoa Church in Westerville, handing out the new parody CD, and spinning the Wheel O' Fun!  So make plans to join us.

Finally, is there anything that the Chinese don't put lead in?

BBL for 8/14

New show info is up and ready for this afternoon.

Went a little heavy with the political articles in yesterday's info, so the blog is getting them today!

A group looking for dirt from Hillary's days as the First Lady are getting shut out.

A lot of folks had things to say about Karl Rove.

I wish the Washington Post would've printed more of the global warming story from 1922.

Bob will have a special guest during the 4 o'clock hour today, Gary Pinion.  He's the head of Encouragment Dynamics and wrote this book.

The most disturbing story from today involves a balloon ban in England.  Why is it disturbing?  It's about clowns!

BBL for 8/13

Kicking of a new week with a host of new articles!  Plenty of political information in today's show info, including some comments from Democrats about the effect of a Hillary-led ballot, and a Republican YouTube debate!

One thing that didn't make the website was the Iowa Straw Poll.  Mitt Romney emerged the winner, but Rudy Guliani and John McCain were not present, so despite saying otherwise, the win rings a little hollow for Mitt.

Conspiracy people everywhere are losing a major player as Karl Rove has announced that he is leaving the White Hosue at the end of the month.  We'll probably never know how far his power reached, but it's obvious that he comprmised a certain radio host...

My favorite story comes from Morgantown, West Virginia where a man is suing McDonalds for $10 million because his hamburgers came with cheese!  Now, if you were violently allergic to cheese, and you ordered something called the Quarter Pounder with Cheese, without cheese, wouldn't you check before taking a bite?  Just lift the bun and make sure?

My least favorite story comes from Cleveland, where I suffered through a lost Sunday afternoon.  Bad news is that I went with a Yankee fan

We're planning on hitting the streets with the new parody cd this week, so keep an ear to your radio for more details.

Make sure your AM dial is on 880 this afternoon or stream live online.

Bob's Back!

First thing's first, as the title proclaims, Bob is back from his mission trip to Moldova and will be in the studio this afternoon to share many of his stories about the past week.

In case you missed the, here are Bob's blogs from Moldova.  And here are some photos.

The website has been updated but I'm not sure how many stories we'll get a chance to talk about.  USA Today takes a look at some emerging evangelical leaders, Michael Barone digs into the changing opinions on the war in Iraq, and the global warming crowd wants us to stop eating.  This didn't make the show info (because I've never watched this program) but apparently the hit TV series 24 will stop battling terrorists and begin saving the world from carbon emissions.

Ugh, continuing with the warming theme, Newsweek declares Global-Warming Deniers: A Well-Funded Machine.  Now, I've been denying it for several months but I haven't seen a dime!

By the way, anytime Newsweek mentions global warming, this needs to be brought up.

And finally, big doings in the world of baseball as slugger Barry Bonds gets his first shot at breaking Hank Aaron's homerun record against my second favorite team, the Washington Nationals.  Bonds will face rookie John Lannan, making only his third major league start.  So what does it feel like the stare down history?  Find out here.  Coolest thing about Lannan, we share a birthday!

BBL 8/3

Today's show information has been updated!

I want  to say that I'm surprised, but sadly I am not- the Democrats are now blaming President Bush for the bridge collapse in Minneapolis.  When it fell, I had the feeling that one of two things would be blamed for the failure, President Bush or global warming.

Here's a quote from Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), who chairs the appropriations subcommittee that funds transportation programs.

“This is what I worry about every day. The lack of investment in infrastructure is frightening,” Murray said. “This is what [Bush] is threatening to veto -- investment in infrastructure for [roads] we go to work on every day.”

(Here's the article it came from)

This didn't make the website today, but The Dispatch front page was filled with information about local bridges.

Bob put in a late night (at least in Moldova) blog entry.

David Stokes will be back on this afternoon, so tune in to 880 am this afternoon at 3!

BBL for 8/2

With Bob still in Moldova our cavalcade of guest hosts continues!

For the next two days the program will be piloted by David Stokes, Senior Pastor of Fair Oaks Church in Fairfax, Virginia.  David will be broadcasting live from the WAVA studios in Washington, D.C.

Even though Bob is not here to discuss them, there are new stories on the BBL site.  Not included is this video of the bridge collapse in Minneapolis.

Enjoy the show on the air or online!

So, I've Started a Blog

I'm not really sure if any other producers do this, but to feed my enormous ego and to prove to Bob just how  important I am, I've started my own blog!

Now pardon me while I remove my tounge from my cheek...

So why exactly does the producer of a radio show need a blog?  Well, I don't, but I'm doing it anyway.  Isn't that what blogs are for?  I, just like every other blogger,  am using up precious space on the internet to pass along information that I think you might find interesting and helpful and to pass along stuff I think is cool.  Mainly, I'm doing this to help promote Bob Burney Live! and to keep you informed as to the daily workings of the show and fill you in on things Bob might have missed.

Everyday I'll let you know when the BBL website has been updated with new stories, pass along some that I think are important, let you know if there are any guests, and clue you into contests, giveaways, and other fun stuff.

So now is the time to pay attention to the man behind the curtain...me!  (I'm overstating my importance for comic effect, by the way)
